Michael Wilton, director, began
his professional career in the security field in Winnipeg, MB, working for a retail investigation
firm. He progressed quickly to the Senior Investigator and Floorwalker
manager position. Michael also provided physical security guard duties for
various businesses as part of a mobile patrol unit in Winnipeg.
Subsequently, Michael took a position with a firm
in Toronto, ON, working all over the Province of
Ontario. He conducted
surveillance operations for major insurance companies, retail theft and
fraud investigations for major retailers and conducted close body
protection detail and security risk analysis for corporate
clients.
Returning to school in 2004 he was awarded a
Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology from the Southern Alberta
Institute of Technology (SAIT). After graduating, Michael took a position
with BP Canada Energy as an Engineering Technologist. He worked in many
facets of the company including: Field Operations, Project Management and
Scheduling, Commercial Analyst, Drilling Engineer and HSSE Coordinator.
Michael also attained his Certified Engineering Technologist designation
with ASET.
Through BP Canada Energy's Incident
Management Team (IMT), Michael held positions of Operations Section Chief,
Safety Officer and was the youngest BP Canada Energy employee to hold the
designation of Incident Commander. With upwards of 200+ days a year on
call, Michael was dedicated to BP Canada’s incident response.
Michael
spent a number of weeks working for BP Canada Energy on the Deepwater
Horizon - Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He
held progressively more responsible positions and was instrumental in
devising the Strike Team organizational structure used on the beaches of
Alabama.
During his time in the south he liaised with Federal, State and Local
officials, was accountable to the Mayors of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores and was interviewed on many
occasions by local and national media.
Michael has most recently worked as a
Drilling Engineer for BP Canada. He has drilled Montney Horizontal wells,
Bluesky Directional wells and a complicated re-entry well with a number of
stakeholder and ERCB concerns. He has consistently produced wells under
time, under budget and with the highest HSSE
standards.
Michael is a member in good standing of the
Association of Science and Engineering Technologists of Alberta (ASET) and
sits on the SAIT advisory board for the Petroleum Program. Michael has
assisted in developing a course for the petroleum industry through SAIT
and is currently in the process of obtaining his MBA from the Herriot -
Watt University Executive MBA program.
